Attention! Attract and cherish your seniors
I have noticed this topic often occurs on Linkedin, and at Bysted & Thielsen we (also) believe senior members of your staff are highly recommendable. Our current perception of seniors and “old age” in general is a relic from how it was 20-30 years ago – Times have changed!
We do however often experience a clear preference for the “younger” candidates (+/- 45), when defining the candidate profiles with our customers. Prejudices are often that senior have less energy, doesn’t have “the finger on the pulse” and are over qualified when they wish to step down from management-positions.
It is a topic we subsequently often address, to ensure more senior candidates can be included in our Search process - simply because there is much value to obtain; Seniors often being more stable, having more experience (of course), having a good network and are more independent and have more time to give to their workplace!
Have or consider a senior policy to develop and keep current senior profiles and try not to only hire “younger” profiles – diversification is not only relevant in terms of gender but also age-wise.
